Stepping into Midnight Season 2 means facing The Venomous Abyss, an eight boss raid hidden inside the Vaults of Atal’Utek on the Coiled Isle. The raid takes you through four Raid Finder wings and ends with Ula’tek, an ancient weapon unleashed by Zul’jan’s actions.

The encounters focus on venom, adds, positioning, target control, and coordinated movement. Later bosses also reward stronger gear, with Mythic loot reaching 344 item level from the final two encounters.

The Venomous Abyss is the main raid of Midnight Season 2. It is located inside the Vaults of Atal’Utek on the Coiled Isle. The raid contains eight encounters divided across four Raid Finder wings.

After Nek’zali the Soulcoiler, the raid splits into two paths. Players clear two bosses in each path before returning to the central area and continuing toward The Twin Fangs, The Coiled Altar, and Ula’tek.

The story centers on Ula’tek, an ancient weapon created by the Amani and imprisoned for more than 16,000 years. Zul’jan’s actions release the creatures connected to Ula’tek, forcing Azeroth’s champions to descend into the vaults and stop the threat.

Venomous Abyss Release Schedule

Normal, Heroic, Mythic, and the first Raid Finder wing opened with Midnight Season 2. Story Mode and the remaining Raid Finder wings were released over the following three weekly resets.

Story Mode requires progression through the Curse of Ula’tek questline. It is designed to let players experience the raid story without entering the standard raid difficulties.

Raid Location and Entrance

The Venomous Abyss is located inside the Vaults of Atal’Utek on the Coiled Isle. The Coiled Isle is part of the Curse of Ula’tek content update and is accessible from the wider Zul’Aman region.

There are three gates leading into the Vaults of Atal’Utek:

Once inside the vaults, head toward the northern part of the complex to reach the raid entrance.

Venomous Abyss Loot Table

The Venomous Abyss offers raid gear, Midnight Season 2 Tier Set tokens, Mistcrests, housing decor, transmog items, and two mounts.

The raid also contributes to the Raid row of the Great Vault. Defeating 2, 4, and 6 raid bosses counts toward the corresponding Great Vault objectives. Story Mode does not count for this progression.

Item Level by Difficulty

The first boss drops 279 item level gear in Raid Finder, 292 in Normal, 305 in Heroic, and 318 in Mythic. Bosses 2 and 3 increase the rewards to 282, 295, 308, and 321 item level. Bosses 4 through 6 drop 285, 298, 311, and 324 item level gear. The Coiled Altar and Ula’tek drop 289, 302, 315, and 344 item level gear respectively by difficulty.

Tier Set Tokens

Five encounters provide Tier Set tokens for specific armor slots. Entombed Sentinels provide hands, The Lost Explorers provide shoulders, Vashnik the Malignant provides chest, Sszorak provides legs, and The Twin Fangs provide helm tokens. Ula’tek drops the Slumbering Coil Curio, which can be exchanged for a Tier Set piece of your choice.

Venomous Abyss Bosses Overview

Nek’zali the Soulcoiler

Nek’zali the Soulcoiler is the opening encounter. She and her followers were entombed after summoning Ula’tek, and her return is tied directly to the raid’s story.

Key mechanics: Restless Amani adds move toward the Soulcoil Well, while Soulcoil Rite causes heavy raid damage. Possession Barrage sends ghosts toward players and can create dangerous damage around the tanks.

Strategy: Control the Restless Amani before they reach the well. Players targeted by dangerous effects should move away from the raid, while the group prepares defensive and healing cooldowns for Soulcoil Rite.

Entombed Sentinels

Entombed Sentinels are two ancient golems representing the Blood and Breath of Ula’tek. The raid splits into groups and manages both bosses while controlling their shared mechanics.

Key mechanics: Blood of Ula’tek applies Blighted Blood and Bloodvenom Injection. Breath of Ula’tek uses Toxic Droplets and creates Venom Coagulation. At high energy, Vitriolic Stasis restores health to the more damaged Sentinel and applies Helical Toxins to the raid.

Strategy: Keep the two Sentinels apart when required and balance their health. Players affected by Blighted Blood should handle the resulting ground effect correctly. Helical Toxins can be neutralized by reaching exactly four applications, so follow the encounter’s stack mechanic instead of letting the debuff build randomly.

The Lost Explorers

The Lost Explorers are a group of Tortollans who became trapped in the vault while searching for ancient artifacts. They are affected by vengeful spirits and use several movement and shell based mechanics.

Key mechanics: The encounter includes Shell Spin projectiles and Mighty Thud, both of which punish poor positioning. Players must also manage the encounter’s spirit and movement mechanics while keeping the active targets under control.

Strategy: Watch the arena carefully and avoid Shell Spin projectiles. Move correctly for Mighty Thud and maintain consistent damage on the active targets. Do not let movement mechanics break the raid formation.

Vashnik the Malignant

Vashnik the Malignant distills Ula’tek’s venom into increasingly dangerous forms inside the Chamber of Virulence.

Key mechanics: Vashnik uses multiple venom effects and creates dangerous areas that reduce the safe space available to the raid. The encounter also includes adds that need to be controlled while the boss continues applying venom mechanics.

Strategy: Move dangerous effects away from the raid and keep enough space available for the next mechanics. Prioritize important adds and coordinate healing cooldowns during periods of heavy raid damage.

Sszorak

Sszorak is a creature warped by Ula’tek’s venom. The encounter combines heavy movement with attacks based on the winds inside Atal’Utek.

Key mechanics: Sszorak uses wind based attacks and creates dangerous movement patterns. The fight also requires the raid to respond to incoming damage while maintaining control of the arena.

Strategy: Watch the direction of incoming attacks and keep enough room to reposition. Tanks should keep Sszorak positioned correctly while the rest of the raid avoids avoidable damage and maintains steady pressure.

The Twin Fangs

The Twin Fangs are Vexhul and Ithraz, the first creatures created from Ula’tek’s blood. Their encounter revolves around managing Eternal Venom while dealing with two different bosses.

Key mechanics: Vexhul uses Coiling Toxins and summons Spawns of Vexhul with Venomous Emergence. Ithraz uses Ravenous Feast and Stone Breaker. At full energy, Vexhul releases a large Surge while Ithraz follows with a dangerous Barrage.

Strategy: Track Eternal Venom and handle the mechanics assigned to each boss. Control the spawned adds, avoid the dangerous ground effects, and keep the encounter organized when both bosses reach high energy.

The Coiled Altar

The Coiled Altar is the seventh encounter and the first boss of the Tomb of Ula’tek. The spirit of Malacrass continues to manipulate Zul’jan while the final ritual to unleash Ula’tek takes place.

Key mechanics: The encounter combines Malacrass’s influence with Zul’jan’s role in the ritual. Players must deal with dangerous attacks while controlling positioning around the altar.

Strategy: Follow the encounter positioning carefully and react to the altar mechanics before they overlap. Keep the raid grouped or spread according to the active mechanic and save major cooldowns for high damage windows.

Ula’tek

Ula’tek is the eighth and final boss of The Venomous Abyss. She is an ancient creature of hatred, corruption, and venom that was imprisoned for more than 16,000 years.

Key mechanics: Ula’tek is a three phase encounter with an intermission between the final phases. The fight uses area denial, adds, and eggs. Players can interact with Ula’tek’s eggs by breaking them before they hatch into empowered adds.

Strategy: Handle the eggs before they hatch, keep dangerous effects away from the raid, and maintain control of the arena as space becomes more limited. Bloodlust or Heroism is used during the final phase. Tanks also need to manage the boss and tail assignments correctly.

Ula’tek drops the Slumbering Coil Curio for all classes. On Mythic difficulty, defeating Ula’tek also awards the Primeval Skyfriend mount.

Venomous Abyss Achievements

The raid also has Mythic boss achievements and a Hall of Fame achievement tied to the first 200 guilds worldwide to defeat Ula’tek on Mythic difficulty.

Final Thoughts
