Blackfathom Deeps (BFD) is a level 20-27 dungeon located in Ashenvale. If you’re going to farm it in WoW Classic, get ready to fight with hundreds of nagas, Twilight cultists, and corrupted creatures. Besides standard drops from trash and bosses and trash, BFD offers a lot of valuable quests, allowing you to get WoW Classic gold, new gear (keep in mind that some of the items may be BIS), and XP.
This guide will explain all you need to know about the Blackfathom Deeps quests: where to start them, what to do inside the BFD dungeon, and what rewards to expect.
Alliance Quests in Blackfathom Deeps
Alliance players have several quests that begin outside the dungeon. These quests provide experience, reputation, and useful rewards. Below is a breakdown of each quest, where to start it, and what you need to do inside Blackfathom Deeps.
While technically a neutral quest, it is only practical for Alliance players. Horde players would have to travel deep into Darnassus, which is not worth the effort.
Knowledge in the Deeps (Level 10+)
This quest comes from Gerrig Bonegrip in Ironforge’s Forlorn Cavern. You need to retrieve the Lorgalis Manuscript, found in a chest underwater in the northern part of the Ghamoo-ra cave. The chest is guarded by a few Naga mobs, so be prepared for a fight.
Despite the dungeon’s higher level requirement, this quest has a very low level restriction (10+), making it possible for lower-level players to get it early.
To complete the quest, you must collect 8 Corrupted Brain Stems, which drop from various enemies inside Blackfathom Deeps. These items may take multiple runs to gather, as the drop rate can be inconsistent.
Twilight Falls (Level 20+)
This quest is obtained from Argent Guard Manados in Darnassus. You need to loot 10 Twilight Pendants, which drop from Twilight’s Hammer cultists found in the deeper parts of the dungeon.
Unlike In Search of Thaelrid, which can technically be taken by Horde players, Twilight Falls is exclusive to the Alliance. It is a good source of reputation with the Argent Dawn, and the rewards are useful for leveling characters.
Rewards for Alliance Quests
Completing these quests provides experience, gold, and reputation, along with gear that can be useful for players in their 20s. Some notable rewards include:
Twilight Falls: Offers a choice of cloth, leather, or mail gear, making it useful for different classes.
These quests enhance your dungeon run experience, providing extra rewards and a reason to fully explore Blackfathom Deeps. The reward includes Arctic Buckler (shield) or Gravestone Scepter (wand).
Horde Quests in Blackfathom Deeps
Horde players have several exclusive quests in Blackfathom Deeps, offering experience, gear, and gold. Most of these quests begin in Ashenvale, with objectives inside the dungeon. Below is a breakdown of each quest, where to start it, and what to do inside Blackfathom Deeps.
Be careful when farming Blackfathom Tide Priestesses, as they heal and can be difficult to kill without crowd control. You must be at least Level 17 to start this quest.
Amongst the Ruins (Level 21+)
Also given by Je’neu Sancrea at Zoram’gar Outpost, this quest requires you to retrieve the Fathom Core, which is located inside Blackfathom Deeps. The Fathom Core is found in a pool of water inside the dungeon. Interacting with it will spawn Baron Aquanis, an additional mini-boss.
This quest has a higher level requirement (21+), making it one of the last quests you should complete in Blackfathom Deeps.
The Essence of Aku’Mai (Level 17+)
This BFD quest is also obtained from Je’neu Sancrea in Zoram’gar Outpost. The objective is to collect 20 Sapphire of Aku’Mai, which are found on the walls inside Blackfathom Deeps. These blue gems can be looted as you progress through the dungeon, but you may need multiple runs to gather all 20.
The Sapphire of Aku’Mai is scattered throughout the instance, so be sure to check cave walls and ledges while moving through the dungeon.
Horde BFD Quest Rewards
Completing these Horde-exclusive quests will provide XP, gold, and reputation with the Darkspear Trolls. Some notable rewards include:
There are no faction-exclusive quests that begin insideBlackfathom Deeps, but both Horde and Alliance players can start a shared quest once inside the dungeon.
Blackfathom Villainy is available to both factions and requires players to defeat Twilight Lord Kelris and retrieve his head. The quest starts inside the dungeon and can be picked up from Argent Guard Thaelrid, who is found in a cavern in the southwestern part of the Ghamoo-ra area. Players must be at least Level 18 to accept this quest.
The The Orb of Soran’ruk is a straightforward quest for Warlocks, though getting to the quest giver can be difficult for Alliance players.
You can pick up the quest from Doan Karhan, who is located northeast of Camp Taurajo in the Barrens. Warlocks of both factions can accept it once they reach level 20.
To complete the quest, you need to defeat Twilight Acolytes inside Blackfathom Deeps and loot 3x Soran’ruk Fragments. However, this isn’t the only step—you’ll also need aLarge Soran’ruk Fragment, which can only be found in Shadowfang Keep. Unlike the Paladin BFD quest, this one isn’t part of a chain, but it still requires visiting multiple dungeons to complete.
Paladin Class Quests in Blackfathom Deeps
Seeking the Kor Gem is part of the Test of Righteousness quest chain, which helps Paladins collect materials to craft Verigan’s Fist, a strong two-handed mace. This quest chain sends players to different dungeons to gather key items needed for the weapon.
To start the chain, you must be Level 20 and speak to Duthorian Rall in Stormwind City. He will set you on the path to collecting four specific materials. One of these items, the Purified Kor Gem, is found in Blackfathom Deeps.
Completing this quest is essential for Paladins, as Verigan’s Fist is one of the best weapons available at this level, providing high damage and useful stat bonuses. If you’re leveling a Paladin, make sure to complete this quest while running Blackfathom Deeps to save time and get the best rewards.
