Ranked progression in Marathon uses a score target system. At the start of each Ranked run, your team is assigned a specific score target based on the value of extracted loot. Only loot that you successfully extract counts toward this target. Your starting equipment does not contribute.
- If you extract with loot value below the required score, you receive zero progress toward your rank.
- If you fail to extract, you lose Ranked Points based on your team's total loot value at the time of death.
Overperformance rewards you for exceeding the score target. You can gain extra score by:
- Looting enemy player Holotags
- Collecting Tag Chips found in PvE encounters and map events
Holotags are mandatory for Ranked participation. They determine your base score target and represent your entry stake. Holotags can also be looted from defeated enemy players – a key mechanic in high-level Ranked gameplay. The higher the Holotag tier, the higher your score requirement and potential loss penalty, but also the higher your potential rewards.
Tag Chips are bonus scoring items found during Ranked raids. They add extra value toward both your score target and overperformance rewards. Standard Tag Chips provide small gains, while improved versions offer higher scoring potential and contribute more bonus Ranked Points.
