Ragnaros also drops the Tier 2 leg pieces in the original level 60 raid progression. The raid is also connected to the Hydraxian Waterlords reputation and several legendary weapon quest chains.
Attunement to the Core is not mandatory for entering Molten Core. Completing the quest lets you speak with Lothos Riftwalker and enter the raid directly instead of traveling through Blackrock Depths.
Molten Core also contains key items for two legendary weapons. Bindings of the Windseeker from Garr and the other half from Baron Geddon begin the quest chain for Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker. Ragnaros can drop Eye of Sulfuras, which is combined with Sulfuron Hammer to create Sulfuras.
